Pest Control Tip!
Note: Some of these tips are for homeowners that want to try household products to control a small pest problem. Licensed pest control operators are not allowed to use these products and may only use NYS registered pesticides that are labeled for use against the specific pest. Try these tips at your own risk.
Small nests of Poliste (paper) wasps can be controlled if sprayed with WD-40 and then left alone. The petroleum in the product will kill the workers and the entire nest. Do NOT knock it down right away, they will build a new one! WD-40 also works great on Carpenter bees, just insert straw into hole and spray for 2-3 seconds.
Larger Poliste Wasps nests, Hornets and Yellowjackets should be left to a professional!
